Haemers Technologies is proud to announce that its PFAS destruction technology, Krysalis®, has been shortlisted for the Trends Impact Awards 2026, in the Future-defining technologies category. The company recently presented the project to the award's jury, made up of experts from Trends-Tendances, PwC Belgium and the Antwerp Management School.
Most people encounter PFAS — the "forever chemicals" — through water: contaminated tap water, polluted rivers, tainted groundwater. But water is where the problem surfaces, not where it lingers. The soil is what keeps it going. At contaminated sites, most of the PFAS mass sits in the ground, trapped for decades — a reservoir that slowly leaks into the water beneath our feet. Across Europe, thousands of such sites remain untreated.
Until now, the usual answer has been to move the problem, not remove it. Krysalis® changes that: the soil is gently warmed — never burned — so PFAS are released as vapours while the ground itself stays intact. Those vapours are then captured and destroyed, fully mineralised, in the heating system. Because only the extracted PFAS are destroyed and never the soil, the ground keeps its structure and natural functions.
The technology has been demonstrated at full scale in Korsør, Denmark, treating 60 tonnes of heavily PFAS-contaminated soil. Full performance data and methodology are available in our PFAS report.
