Full-Scale In-Situ Thermal Desorption of Hydrocarbon Contamination at the Ford Aquitaine Industry Site in Blanquefort, France

A 1,260 m³ full-scale remediation used 48 heating wells to treat HCOV trapped in a floating mineral-oil layer, with vapour condensation and activated-carbon treatment, achieving the remediation objectives after five weeks of heating.

SITE DESCRIPTION

       Treated Volume

  1,260 m³ of contaminated soil (2,268 T)

          Thermal technology

   In-Situ Treatment (ISTD, full scale)

       Main contaminant

Hydrocarbons (HCOV), including perchloroethylene

        Site challenges

Hydrocarbons trapped in a mineral oil layer floating on groundwater, over a 280 m² area at 4.5 m depth

        Project Timeline

2011
