In-Situ Thermal Desorption of VHOC-Contaminated Soil at the EDF Site in Lucciana, France

A 5,850 m³ contaminated zone was treated using 33 propane-fired Smart Burners over 70 days, reaching 85°C at cold points and reducing VHOC concentrations from up to 142,000 µg/m³ to below the 15,000 µg/m³ target, with cleanup objectives achieved down to 13 m depth.

SOLUTION

          Treatment Method

In-situ thermal treatment using 33 propane-fired Gas Smart Burners

          Treatment program

33 heating tubes, target temperature 85°C at cold points, 70 days of heating

         Contaminated Vapors Management

One VTU and one KIT STF, with emission control through gas analyses

       Process control

15 temperature probe wells at 5, 9 and 13 m depth, 8 pressure wells and gas emission monitoring

RESULTS

✅           5,850 m³ of VHOC-contaminated soil treated.

✅           70 days of heating, targeting 85°C at the coldest points.

✅           Cleanup objectives successfully achieved down to 13 m depth.
