Large-Scale Thermal Remediation of Hydrocarbon-Impacted Soils Along an Urban Canal

More than 10,000 m³ of soils impacted by hydrocarbons and PAHs were successfully remediated through seven Ex-Situ Thermal Treatment batches, establishing a benchmark for thermal remediation performance, operational efficiency, and energy optimization.

SITE DESCRIPTION

       Treated Volume

  10,000 m³ of contaminated soil

          Thermal technology

   Ex-Situ Treatment (Applied Onsite)

       Main contaminant

  HAP, Hydrocarbons

        Site challenges

   High concentration contaminants

        Project Timeline

2019 - 2021

SOLUTION

          Treatment Method

On-site thermal remediation using Smart Burners fueled with natural gas

          Treatment program

7 batches of approximately 2,700 tonnes each

         Contaminated Vapors Management

Reburn treatment (Vapor Treatment with granulated activated carbon from the seventh batch)

       Process control

Continuous temperature monitoring into the soil throughout the treatment

RESULTS

✅        >97 % reduction in pollutant load

✅        Treatment time : 40 - 50 days per Batch

✅        No exceedance of atmospheric releases
