Thermal Remediation of Hydrocarbon-Impacted Soils at Ganløseparken, Denmark

Approximately 1,350 m³ of soils contaminated with hydrocarbons from a gasoil tank leak were successfully remediated using In-Situ Thermal Desorption, achieving a 99.2% contaminant removal rate and meeting residential remediation objectives despite challenging groundwater conditions.

SITE DESCRIPTION

       Treated Volume

1,022 m³ of contaminated soil

          Thermal technology

   In-Situ Treatment

       Main contaminant

        Project Timeline

2017 - 2018

SOLUTION

          Treatment Method

In-Situ treatment  using 63heating tubes

          Treatment program

Target temperature 220°C for 113 days

         Contaminated Vapors Management

Reburn

       Process control

Continuous temperature monitoring into the soil throughout the treatment

RESULTS

✅         Achieved a 99.2% contaminant removal rate

✅          final concentrations were below the detection limit (<20                          mg/kg)

✅          Emission standards were maintained throughout the project
